SPS produces a complete line of decorative plasters, wall paints and varnishes for the professional plasterer and decorator. SPS is also the largest producer of private label products within the Benelux for large-scale builders’ merchant chains as well as other outlets. In addition, SPS produces an extensive and broad DIY range with an excellent price-quality ratio under the Finess brand name.
Problem
SPS is strongly customer driven and therefore the focus on quality is evident. Customer’s requests require flexibility in the process, so software at SPS always should guide people and not limit them in their actions.
Solution
With creating a large distribution center (DC) nearby the main offices and production locations, a warehouse management system (WMS) was needed to enable a scanner-based way of working. We created such a WMS that is interoperable with the existing ERP software (Improve). After full implementation within the DC, this WMS has become part of a broader set of SPS dedicated ERP solutions. The focus on SPS goals is now expressed in the solutions name: Pingenti, i.e. Latin for ‘for those who are painting’. Pingenti is now in use for managing (intermediate) warehouses, supporting production and developing product recipes.
Pingenti comprises a server application based on Java running on Tomcat and using an Oracle database. Scanning is done on Windows CE based scanners, on which a C#. / NET-based application is running.
